The Belgium international departed Stamford Bridge in 2014 but returned on Saturday with Manchester City and played a
key role as his former employers were beaten 3-0 Guus Hiddink believes Chelsea reject Kevin De Bruyne is a “beautiful player”, and has praised the Belgian’s development since his move away from Stamford Bridge.
The Manchester City midfielder played a key role in his new side’s 3-0 victory over the Blues on Saturday, tormenting the
home defence with his crisp passing and intelligent running. De Bruyne was sold by Chelsea in 2014, joining Wolfsburg for
a €20 million fee, but returned to the Premier League in the summer, and has since become an integral part of the City
starting XI. And Hiddink has lauded the ability of the 24-year-old, though he stopped short of claiming Chelsea made a mistake in offloading De Bruyne two years ago. “He is very keen on playing in between the lines,” he told reporters. “He was a beautiful player to see. The difference a bit between us and Man City, they need one and a half
chance and then they score one goal.
“Unless you play them, it is beautiful to see. It is always easy to give analysis now [on De Bruyne leaving]. Was therecompetition for three or four players in one position when he was here? Yes.
“It is beautiful to see how he has developed himself.”
